Haiti: From Complaint to Hallelujah

januari 27th, 2010

She points to a deeply felt sermon of the Haitian minister Solect from Lamentations 3. “It is a tremendous passage in the Bible, when Jerusalem had been destroyed. The people had lost everything, but in the midst of their misery they could still say: “Great is Your faithfulness.” It was a message of hope.”…
Photographer Jaco Klamer from the Nederlands Dagblad visited a church service on Sunday, together with Leen Stok from the aid organization Woord en Daad (Word and Deed). It was, according to Klamer, a gripping service. “The people sang beautifully; it was completely silent when the worship leader began to sing. Slowly she began to sing and finally the whole congregation sang. Mourning people who all sang “Hallelujah.” At the end of the service eight people went forward to give their lives to Jesus. What joy and happiness! Although you usually can scarcely see the emotions of Haitians, you could see their happiness and at the same time their grief and tears… The people in the church were really happy that people in The Netherlands are so involved in what’s happening and that they’re praying in the Dutch churches for Haiti.”
